Roadtrip-part 4 Comin' Down Highway One

 Beautiful beaches on Highway 1
Love the green ferns amongst the redwoods!

The Golden Gate bridge on a fog-less day!

Pigeon Pt. lighthouse is in disrepair but still beautiful to this lighthouse-lover. :)
Julia Pfeiffer State beach has a fresh waterfall into the ocean!
A fountain in the "secret garden" at Cambria Pines Lodge-one of our favorites places to visit.
We love the great breakfast and beautiful gardens throughout the property.
Avila Beach was our last stop on our 16 day trip. We had a wonderful time!

Roadtrip-part 3- Ferndale, Mendocino, and the Skunk Train

Next, we drove out to the charming Victorian town of Ferndale. It is surrounded by dairy farms and is called "Creamery City." I love this "dairy cake" with the John Deere tractor on top!
The buildings on Main St. are all like this! I bet the local house painters are busy!
 Another storefront
We stopped and had a huge and delicious bowl of chili and hot tea.
(This was a nice change from being so hot at the beginning of our trip!)
 Love those redwoods!
We couldn't pass up the "Drive Thru Tree"!
This is the Headlands Inn B&B in Mendocino,  an East-Coast style town on the West Coast.
Our room had a fireplace with everything ready for us. All we had to do was light it!
The view out one of our windows
Breakfast on our deck. They brought our breakfast to our room on a tray with china cups and saucers, flowers, delicious food and even a fuchsia on our granola bowl!
 The church in town
We took the Skunk Train from Ft. Bragg 20 miles thru the redwoods to Northspur.
We stopped and had a delicious tri-tip dinner with all the trimmings at the turn-around spot.
It was delightful to chug through the forest and take as many pictures as I wanted!

Roadtrip-part 2 Hwy. 299, Samoa Cookhouse, Trinidad Bay

We took scenic Hwy. 299 across from Mt Shasta and came upon this ghost town while looking for a place to picnic.
Love these vines all over the fence.

Jeff and Eva  (Kirk's high school buddy) took us to the Samoa Cookhouse for a fun "camp style" dinner.

They showed us around Eureka and their home in Arcata.
It was nice to see where they live.
We got to stay at the Trinidad Bay B&B and look at this lighthouse out our window!
Our room was the dormer window on the left.
Comin' down stairs for  a yummy breakfast
Sitting at a tall table in our room with the bay and lighthouse across the street.
We took a mile  hike around the Trinidad Headlands and enjoyed the local scenery. Here--crab pots!

Roadtrip part 1-Housekeeping in Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, McCLoud B&B near Mt. Shasta, Shasta Dam

This is one shot of the view from our housekeeping unit in Yosemite.
Here's our home for the 5 days in Yosemite & Kirk reading the biography of Jedediah Smith
"The Group" shot includes Robin & David and 2 of their daughters and families,
David's brother Tom and Mary and 1 of their daughters and her 3 sons... and Kirk and I!
We had a lovely breakfast at the Ahwanee coffee bar with Robin and David
Robin with her 7 mo. old grandson, Lars at the Lodge Pool. Cute huh?
 Sentinel Rock from Cook's Meadow
Kirk and I sat IN the river to cool off!
We enjoyed Lee Stetson's portrayal of John Muir at the live theater in Yosemite.
Going over Tioga Pass we spotted some of the most beautiful scenery!
Love this stream by the side of the road!
Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe. We took the paddle-wheel boat last time we visited, so decided to go up here and look down on it this time--glad we did!
McCloud River Inn B&B at the foot of Mt. Shasta. We stayed here 3 nights.
The lumber town of McCloud is tiny but charming!
Mt. Shasta is definitely a volcano!
This is Doc Holliday's dentist chair in the McCloud Museum
Remember him from the Wild West stories?
We took a very interesting tour of Shasta Dam.
Here is the spillway looking straight down (Kirk took it!)
This one is the spillway from the bottom looking up. Those holes are over 6' high each.
Good-bye Mt. Shasta!
McCloud River Middle Falls was such a treat to experience!
